Tigers Ready To Bounce Back After Opening Loss

On August 28, the Tigers opened the season at home against Cleveland St. Edward. It was a match-up between two of the top football programs in the state. In the
end, St. Ed scored on a late touchdown to pullout a 24-23 win at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium.
Massillon looked strong in the first quarter and took a 10-7 lead after senior wide receiver Jayden Ballard scored on a touchdown pass from senior quarterback Zach Catrone. Before halftime, senior Alex Bauer hit his career-long field goal of 42 yards which put the Tigers up 20-10 at halftime.
The second half was a battle. The Tigers’ 10-point lead evaporated when they were outscored 14-3 from that point. The game-winning play for St. Ed came with about four minutes left in the game on a trick play- a double-pass for a touchdown, giving the Eagles a 1-point victory.
In the fourth quarter St Edwards ran a trick-play to put them in the lead by one. The Tigers couldn’t battle back for the win resulting in a loss on the season.
