SkillsUSA Ohio

Skills USA Ohio is being held in Ashtabula this year and we are lucky enough to have our very own construction class going.  SkillsUSA is a competition for students in the construction field, it can either be a written or building test. Werstler’s crew of four is going up to Ashtabula on the 29th of February to compete in the group skills competition.  He picked the students who had the highest scores on their WebXam’s (General Construction Tests) in order to make it fair to all of the students. There will be schools from all over Ohio taking part in this event.

“This competition is so special because it allows the kids to compare themselves to others outside of our class who are in the same field as us.  It gives them a chance to grow.” said Werstler.  Last year was his first year teaching construction and they placed sixth out of nine.  ” The goal is for my students to have a good experience and enjoy the time they spend there, we don’t care about where we place in the competition”.
