15 Years of Marriage

February 19, 2020

Anniversaries are so much fun. My parents have now been married for 15 years and together for 19. My parents are pretty great. I wanted to ask them a few things about each other to see how they feel. I asked the same questions in different rooms so they wouldn’t hear each other’s responses.

Every Sunday in the summer, our family would just go outside and have a day filled with playing outdoor games.

What is your favorite thing about dad?

Mom: “That he always tells me how beautiful I am and how great of a mother I am… He is such a hard worker and makes sure we have everything our family needs. Besides all that, he is my best friend.”

What is the favorite memory you have with him?

Mom: “I love being able to have the nights that we just sing our hearts out… Last year we went to Mountaineer and it was so much fun.”

What is your favorite thing about mom?

Dad: “That she can deal with everything in the world so easily and still seem sweet and happy most days… She’s just a great person and an even better partner.”

What is the favorite memory you have with her?

Dad: “It’s hard to pick just one. Our anniversaries trips are fun, starting our family, and slowly becoming mature adults and parents.”

This was my parents first ever place they took a vacation at in 2002.

When my parents first started dating they went to the Sea Oats hotel in South Carolina. That was there the first vacation they ever took as a couple. It is now known as Sea Dunes and if you were to look up now, it is regarded as one of the worst hotels. “It was a lot better 18 years ago when we first went. We wanted to get away. We decided to go to myrtle beach in February. We didn’t think it would be that cold but it was a very cold experience,” My mom said. “I remember we were walking along the beach and there was a bird so I decided to throw a cookie to it. Once I threw it, a whole bunch of birds came flying at me. I didn’t realize me throwing one cookie would attract like a thousand birds.” We went to South Carolina a few years ago for a family vacation and they wanted to take us outside that hotel to show us where their first vacation was.

When my parents were in high school, they didn’t know each other. “We knew some of the same people and talked here and there and even ran into each other a few times. But we didn’t really know each other,” My dad says. They ended up meeting and talking at Walmart for work.

It’s so crazy to me to think that my parents went to the same high school and didn’t talk much but started talking at work. My parents’ relationship is amazing and makes me look forward to getting married one day. Their relationship isn’t perfect. But it’s pretty dang close to it. I didn’t write this piece to “brag” or anything. I wrote it to show my parents how much I care about them. I really do love them and look up to them in so many different ways. Even if there are days I don’t show it. I hope I have a relationship like theirs one day.

I love you both and happy anniversary! I hope it was a great one.

Pallas this is a nice gift you gave your parents. I’m glad you did it. I really liked it. Your parents are amazing. I don’t know your dad that well but I do your mom. She has always been a great niece. All of your aunts and uncles are great. I love you all. I am sure one day you will meet somebody as amazing as your mom has meet and love. I am glad your parents are such a great example to you. Not many kids these days can say that. Happy Anniversary Athena and Jason.
