Learn To Cook: Nachos!

Nachos. A great Tex-Mex dish for any young adult. But what is the best way to make this meal? Well, here are a few recipes worth trying!

For this recipe you’ll need:

  • 1 bag (32 oz.) of frozen tater tots
  • 7 oz. of spicy pork sausage
  • 1 can of diced tomatoes, with juice
  • 12 oz. processed cheese cubed
  • 15 oz. of black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 cup of pickled jalapeno slices
  • 1/4 cup of minced cilantro
  • 1/3 cup of thinly sliced onions
  • 1 medium avocado, cubed
  • 1 medium tomato, chopped
  • 1/2 cup of sour cream
  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Place tater tots in an ungreased baking pan and bake for 40 minutes, uncovered.
  3. While the tater tots are baking, in a skillet, cook pork over medium heat until no longer pink. Break into crumbles and drain.
  4. Remove meat and in the same skillet, add the diced tomatoes and cheese. Cook uncovered until cheese is melted stirring occasionally.
  5. Pour cheese and tomatoes over tater tots. Sprinkle pork and black beans on top.
  6. Bake uncovered for 10 minutes.
  7. Once removed from the oven sprinkle jalapenos, onion, and cilantro on the top. Serve with sour cream.

If you aren’t really feeling the tater tots, here is a classic tortilla chip option for you to try!

For this next recipe you’ll need:

  • 1 lb of ground beef
  • 1 envelope of taco seasoning
  • 3/4 cup of water
  • 1 package of tortilla chips
  • 1 cup of refried beans
  • 1 jar of queso con salsa dip
  • 2 chopped plum tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup of sour cream
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a large skillet, cook and crumble beef over medium heat until no longer pink, then drain.
  3. Stir in taco seasoning and water; bring to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, until thickened, stirring occasionally.
  5. In an ungreased baking pan layer a third of chips, beans, beef mixture, and queso dip. Repeat layers twice.
  6. Bake, uncovered, for 10-15 minutes.
  7. Top with tomatoes and serve immediately with sour cream on the side.

For this recipe you’ll need:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 8 ounces ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon creole seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 8 ounces processed cheese, cubed
  • 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/2 cup canned diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup canned chopped green chiles
  • 1/4 cup salsa verde
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro leaves
  1. Heat the olive oil in a saucepan over medium-high heat.
  2. Add ground beef, creole seasoning, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper, to taste. Cook until browned, making sure to crumble the beef as it cooks.
  3. Drain excess fat and transfer to a plate.
  4. Add processed cheese to the saucepan, stirring until melted. Stir in Monterey Jack cheese, diced tomatoes, green chiles, and salsa verde until well combined.
  5. Stir in ground beef and cilantro for about 1-2 minutes.
  6. Serve with tortilla chips
